Crytek has released the first two screenshots from Crysis 2, which is being released later this year for PC and consoles. In describing the screenshots, Crytek says:
Taking place in New York city, Crysis 2 brings highly vertical gameplay to the table, made possible with the Nanosuit 2, developed by Crynet Systems. The first of these images includes a Nanosuit-clad character in an all-too-familiar pose, with a backdrop of destruction as the city is laid to waste. The second features Crynet Ops infantry in combat with the Nanosuit 2 whilst the city crumbles down around them, for reasons that will be revealed in due time.

ok fine i'll say it, bloody consoles ruined crysis :@ wtf is this? this isn't crysis! crysis is about hiding in jungles not blasting anything that moves in some city!

How is it that consoles destroyed Crysis setting-wise? Consoles have no impact on a game's story or setting. You have yet to even see a video of the game, regardless.

I can't wait for this. Jungles are fine and dandy but I always wondered what Crysis in an urban environment would be like. I'm stoked, to say the least. And what makes Crysis isn't the jungle but rather the suit and the graphics.

i'll admit I was a bit emotional when I said that and blaming consoles is all the rage (funny how just when I jump on the bandwagon people stop blaming it :/ ) but I wouldn't mind betting that consoles had a hand in it, cities would be far easier to render me thinks

but they've still taken away a big part of what I liked about Crysis and of what made Crysis work, I don't see good things ahead, at the very least I don't see a Crysis game

Agreed. But I do hope they incorporate some stealth into the game this time.

It would be nice to sneak up on enemies while cloaked, kill them silently with a neck break or something, then lower them to the ground.

I always favored stealth over action (I love having the option though, because I'm not really very good at stealth), but in Crysis all you could do was club them in the back of the head. Then they would cry out and knock over tons of noisy crap on their way to the ground.

I'd also appreciate being able to move corpses out of sight, a la NOLF2, as well.

Who knows, though? Maybe that kind of thing is too Splinter Cell-ish for Crytek.

I'm positive you can be stealthy inside a large city. And with your Nanosuit you can just Mirror's Edge your way out of (or into) anything brawn can't handle.

Are these console pics or PC's? There's no freaking way the console will look this good.

i'm sure that, like the first "screenshots" that came out for crysis, they're not representative of what it looks like in-game.

they might use extremely high quality assets and rendering techniques to carefully construct these scenes to look good in a picture, then call it a screenshot because it's technically rendered by the engine. meanwhile, they probably get like 3 FPS running the game that way... i wouldn't rule out the possibility of some polishing in photoshop, either.
