» Dragon Age Origins Review

While Jakub wasn't too impressed with Dragon Age Origins, Vandy has a completely different take on the game. This is one review you definitely won't want to miss if you're a BioWare fan!

Amazing game that comes somewhere close to the greatness of Baldur's Gate. BG (the whole series) is my favorite game of all time, by far, and while Dragon Age: Origins is more or less a "BG lite" (with reduce party size causing a lot less tactical battling, dumbed-down character sheets, etc) it still retains the compelling story, fun real time battles, LONG play time, etc.

The one thing I have a real problem with is the camera system. Only one over head option, but 4 or 5 close up ranges - weird, unnecessary, and awkward in certain locations. And the fact they made the right click do both the screen rotation AND the execute function is a wild mistake.

Doesn't Mass Effect have eyelashes on the characters too? :P

i don't think so. i looked up a screen that is supposed to be from the PC version, so unless it isn't or there's a specific option that needs to be enabled...

seems they might do that slight darkening around the edges of the eyelids to give the illusion (i'm pretty sure oblivion does this, too), but dragon age is the first i've seen to have actual eyelashes. hence my reaction. :p

From my Mass Effect PC, texture detail set to Ultra High (I don't know if that makes a diff)

[edit:] I didn't realize Photobucket smashed it down to 800x600. I have the original 1680x1050 image if it's too hard to distinguish. But trust me, they're there and they're real. Unfortunately, I couldn't grab one as an example, but they do project out from the face in profile shots.

Yeah, it makes a huge difference in the believability of the face. I find it funny that I can relate better with a blue-skinned alien than I can with humans in other games simply because eyelashes take the character one step further out of the Uncanny Valley.

crikey, you're right, i can see it. oh, well, i must've forgotten. but still, bioware is the only developer that puts eyelashes on characters! haha.

Haha, we're in 100% agreement, right down to the numerical rating we give the game. Game of the Year so far.
