» Shattered Horizon Review

FutureMark, well known for their popular 3DMark benchmarks, is venturing into new territory with Shattered Horizon. This multiplayer shooter is perhaps best known for its system requirements -- the game supports DX10 only -- but there's more underneath the surface of this game than fancy visuals. Is it worth its $20 price tag though? Read Vandy's take inside!

2 things:

1) does it have any singleplayer game at all? or is it strictly multiplayer?

2) this site started out as a pc game site, so why does it suck that this game was made for pc's??????

quote: "Exclusive to the PC. It sucks that this is considered a pro nowadays…"

that doesn't suck at all, what sucks is every other game out that is made for consoles then ported to pc's.

it's strictly multiplayer.

and i meant the second thing the opposite way you took it. it sucks that games are usually console-first, so then when something is PC-exclusive, it deserves to be mentioned under the Pros. ideally, it shouldn't matter what other platforms it's on - if it's on PC, that version should be good - but that's rarely the case anymore.

in other words, it sucks that i have to mention that as a reason to buy it, not that that's the case. sorry for the confusion.

Shattered Horizon is a great game. I loved the beta - tearing through space near the ISS, over asteroids, etc. It really comes into it's own once you get all the little intricacies down like silent mode, tethering to surfaces, etc.

It's one of the best (new) multiplayer shooters I've played in quite a while. And it has a very refreshing take on the genre in a surprisingly realistic manner.

Love it. Can't wait for launch tomorrow. Poor launch timing though, because I'll be too busy with Dragon Age: Origins after launch (friday here).

OH and jacobvandy: the Warden's Keep is indeed just regular DLC available for purchase by anyone. In the digital CEs (Steam/Impulse) you get it for free, because they have the premium price tag but none of the physical goodies of the regular CE versions.

I'm hoping to get my hands on a regular CE version btw. Will be tricky with EA's ridiculously poor handling of the CE version in these parts, but at least it's not the shitty excuse for a CE that the British are getting.

This looks interesting. At $20 it's pretty much a lazy weekend impulse buy..

Excellent review. You convinced me to get it but unfortunately I can't because I have all of my funds tied up getting a new PC and Dragon Age. =(

Speaking of which, who else is getting the collector's edition? I'm pretty pissed I didn't know about the Stardock deal that shaved 20% off of anything in Impulse by typing in "SURVEY-2008." That would've made the CE $52 instead of $65. I normally don't buy CEs but this one has added content along with your standard CE fare.

damn, i didn't know that either. i hardly ever get the CE (actually, i think the only one i've ever gotten was for oblivion), but for $2 extra, why the hell not? grr.

Yeah, but the only real selling point is the fact that there is a whole new DLC-sized quest thingy where you explore a major part of the backstory that is apparently exclusive to the CE. CE's are only worth buying if it comes with more content to the game to justify the added cost - and I'm not talking about exclusive multiplayer maps (most absurd idea ever) or a few trinkets.

I think I only bought the WiC collector's edition because it came with a real piece of Berlin Wall and a documentary (plus the making of video which is always interesting).

Oh really? Awesome. I didn't know that. I was told that it was exclusive. Sweet.

the DLC you're talking about is warden's keep, right? i just started the game and there's a menu to buy extra content, and it's not exclusive to the CE, apparently.
