"A very promising PC CRPG with the delivery of a multiformat game" (tm)

This game isn't an aberration, it's the ongoing way the multiformat market works. Quite simply if this game had been developed just for the PC or just for the 360 I doubt it would have had the problems it has, but developers are being pulled in too many different directions.

According to another report on this site, the average gamer is now 34 with PC gamers higher at 38. But where are the intelligent, mature stories? Where are the games that don't revolve around combat? Why is it we got games like Planescape Torment and X-Com in the 90's when the average PC gamer was in his late 20's and now, a dozen years on we get shallow, dumbed down games seemingly written for 13 year olds? God forbid you have a naked woman or man in a game, have them making love in their underwear! God forbid you get intelligent mature decision making from NPC's along with, if necessary, swear words!

For every STALKER we get a Far Cry 2, for every Witcher we get a Mass Effect. In other word's the first two are not first person shooters in the same mould and the second two are not RPG's in the same mode. One is format specific and one is multiformat based in each genre. he two PC centric games are deep, mature and do not hold your hand. They happen to come from outside the U.S. The two American titles are more shallow and repetitive with more action based gaming as a percentage of the total game.

The multiformat market is killing gaming. Retro gaming is the fastest growing genre for a reason. Alpha Protocol is just one more title that shows the multiformat, common denominator, every game costing $30 million, is broken. If it's not fixed soon, those 30 something console gamers and 40 something PC gamers will either walk away altogether, or become exclusive retro gamers, meaning no or little income for the gaming industry.

Oh and ME got great scores because it's Bioware. Games aren't scored only on how good or bad they are, but who the publisher is. For a Blizzard or Bioware or Valve, a bad game will get high 80's. Equally a great game from a non U.S. smaller developer will never score in the 90's. All the following games scored in the 80's: The STALKER series, The Witcher, The Divinity series, the Sam and Max series, the Spellforce series, Drakensang, Beyond Good and Evil and on and on. Try and find a non U.S. developed title by a non U.S. publisher that has scored 90+ - because you won't find one.

» This change is all about customer pressure!
This is all about the massive number of complaints about Starcraft 2 only offering one campaign for gamers $60, when the original offered 3 campaigns for the same price.

By the time you have all three campaigns you will be looking at over $100. How good dies a game have to be to cost that much?

And is it only me who thinks Starcraft is so good that Starcraft 2 can only really be a graphic upgrade - because I just don't see how they can make it any better than the original!?

I think people are going to be totally shocked at how low the sales are with Starcraft 2, versus the 10's of millions the first game sold!

» And......
"We will definitely work on a console game at some point" - "and in the meantime we will rip our PC customers off to garner extra income by giving them just one campaign for $60,then another campaign for another $60,then the third campaign for yet another $60"!!!

Wonder if the original Starcraft would be seen as the classic it is, if it had only come with one campaign with the other campaigns costing more money? I doubt it.

» If only we had a media that looked at everything
I am fed up seeing the same old titles over and over again, and the same old titles missed over and over again!

Where is Two Worlds II? or The Witcher 2? Or the new STALKER title? It wouldn't have anything to do with these games not coming from American publishers, could it?! It will be so nice when we finally get a professional gaming media.

Secondly, if you listed these games by genre, you would have over 90% of these titles are action games, either offline or MMO. There's a couple RTS's, but that's about it.

Given how successful titles like The Witcher and Oblivion and Dragon Age were, a huge chunk of the gaming market is being ignored by American publishers. Thank god for the east Europeans!

But of course we get no editorials talking about these issues, do we? We get the same articles trotted out by all the gaming sites. I could have read this on IGN or Gamespot, but where do I go to find a gaming site talking about 2010 games like The Witcher 2, or Fallout: New Vegas, etc?!
