| Just because its a non-issue to you as a whatever the hell you do at FS, a third rate industry news outlet, doesn't mean Valve did a service to its supporters.
Its precisely because the likes of your apathy to report on and keep bringing attention to consumers getting screwed that the likes of Bobby Kotic is hired and continues to make decisions that screw us over.
I work in the game industry and am VERY aware of the whole money issue. Hence, I did not mind when the new baseline for game prices went up to $60.
I've been a long time supporter of Valve and have never minded buying games because of their support, in return, to their supporters. Their support for TF2 is a perfect example of why I've endorsed them for so long.
My beef with Valve results from their promise to deliver specific content for L4D1, promises on which I trusted and bought the game on release. Lo and behold, six months after release, they announce L4D2 with a lot of the features that were promised to L4D1 owners.
When it became obvious that, instead of working on the promised content for L4D1, they began development on L4D2. Valve, instead of supporting their games for the long term, something they're highly regarded for, for the first time releases a sequel in one year.
Its two years, and they STILL haven't delivered fully on the content that was promised to L4D1 and screwed over those of us who supported them with the purchase.
If you can't understand what it is they did wrong, then you are part of the problem.
Its not about the money. Its the breaking of trust and screwing over of their supporters who bought their game.
So, I'm voting with my wallet and speaking my opinion. Flag this | Edit this post |

| That's not the sad part.
The sad part is, Valve practically giving these games away after screwing over the L4D1 owners by splitting the player base with L4D2, then try to make amends by delivering their promised content for L4D1 _2 freaken years later_; with what? One measly free DLC.
Fuck you, Valve. I won't be buying any of your games anymore. Flag this | Edit this post |

| You mean, the same way they didn't split the player base by not releasing a sequel that included all the content promised as free updates for the original?
Oh, wait, they DID do such a thing with Left4Dead 2.
Fuck Valve. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Here's some more guesses.
They completely drop support for TF2 after figuring out they can milk their player base for more money by releasing a game, promising all kinds of content, then release all that promised content in a full priced sequel 12 months later.
If a boycott props up, use pocket change to fly the boycott leaders to Valve HQ, wine and dine them, swoon them by showing off how the new sequel will split the player base from the original game, send 'em back home in diapers, release a rushed DLC for the original to satiate critics, and move on to release another sequel in 12 months. Mo' money!
Break up HL2 EP3 into four parts and charge $59.95 for HL2 EP3 PT1, $49.95 for HL2 EP3 PT2, $39.95 for HL2 EP3 PT3, then split the HL2 EP3 PT4 into four parts. Rinse and repeat. Flag this | Edit this post |

| 1. They release L4D3 right at the 12 month mark after part 2 and further split the player base, as they did L4D.
2. They release a trailer announcing HL2 EP3, but showing nothing but the title and sound FX, to be released 12 months from the announcement.
3. They release a viral web game, similar to the recent Portal 2 version where people had to dig up a dial up modem, connect to a BBS, guess passwords and download ASCII art. But, this time, they're using an ancient pictogram language locked behind a 512-bit encryption with the only access is to physically travel to a remote location in Pakistan and dig in the sand while being shot at by insurgents for a 5.25" floppy that might or might not be readable. | Any large multinational corporation can have the money due to an employee direct deposited into their account within a week after a timesheet is turned in.
Its been over six months since MW2 shipped and IW hasn't seen a cent of their royalties.
I bet Bobby Kotick's had his Benjamin bath every night since MW2's release. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Just like what Left4Dead2 did to Left4Dead1, this will split the player base into those who bought and those who did not.
How does Activision (since IW is no longer the IW as we knew it) plan to handle the matchmaking? Let me take a guess. You click Find Game, it searches, matches you up to a game on one of the 3 new or 2 old maps, then, when the countdown reaches 0, you get booted with an error message: "Could not find file AnotherSuckerBorn.map". You FS kids lost the touch five years ago and the likes of you are now dredging the bottom.
I play PC games because of the longevity in support, player community, and content. If I wanted a game with yearly updates at full price, I'll start playing sports games from EA. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I doubt you'll put your money where your mouth is had Valve really charged $100 for L4D2.
So, in truth, its your comment that is stupid.
I played the L4D2 demo. Its barely better than part 1.
I thoroughly enjoyed L4D1. But, when Valve announces part 2 less than 9 months after its release, it tells me they began work on part 2 immediately after 1's release, when they still had promised content to deliver on. Move your pudgy fingers and search youtube for the L4D1 interviews, promising many more new maps, new weapons, etc etc.
After that, drink your cool-aide and have fun playing a game you'd have paid $100 for. Then go suck a fat one. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Nice attempt at trying to marginalize me by letting sarcasm fly over your head. Yeah, by some JacobVandy miracle, I read out of the press release, Valve is forcing all players of L4D1 to buy L4D2. That's how reality works, as I've found out.
Now, without sarcasm: My point is NOT whether Valve will charge for the PC DLC. My point IS Valve's undelivered promises made at L4D1 release, and additional undelivered promises made after the fallout from L4D2 announcement.
Jacob, in your article, you briefly mentioned these points, but never dug deeper about what Valve has done or will do about the split in the player base of part 1 and 2. Thus far, they have done NOTHING. And after playing the demo for 2, I doubt there's anything Valve can do outside of a patch that completely revamps 1's engine to match that of 2.
So, now, will you give a proper thought out reply with a follow-up article exploring the above or another dimwitted dismissive? Flag this | Edit this post |

| So, this is Valve's solution to bring the L4D1 player base together with L4D2? Make the L4D1 community pay $50 for what should have been a DLC?
And oh how soon they come out with a DLC after launch, compared to the months and months Valve took to come out with new content for part 1.
_F_ you Valve. As I said before, I won't be buying what should have been a DLC, a freaken half-priced expansion at best. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Hey, Jacob.
How about elaborating on the fact Valve promised to remedy the split in the player base from L4D1 in addition to the other promises to deliver on additional content to part 1? How many months has it been now and still nothing? All the while TF2 gets yet another update.
The majority of "new features" in L4D2 are just fluff that add nil to gameplay or content. Zombies now have parts blown off when you shoot them? You get new skins for the same old weapons? Bland voice acting and lack of depth in new cast of characters? Whooptie-F-ing-DO!
I won't be buying what was mostly suppose to be DLC for L4D1. Have fun over-paying for the "new content", even if you did buy t he 4-pack. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yep, they're going with Steamworks to do all their anti-cheat and matchmaking crap. I hope they cave into pressure and provide a dedicated server option later.
As for the $60 bucks for pre-order, go to walmart dot com. You may have it delivered a few days after release date, but you'll get a $20 eGift card that you can use right away. For your 3 day late arrival, you save $20 to push toward Borderlands. Flag this | Edit this post |

| E for All Expo has been playing dirty from the beginning. Just look at the recent interview with Robert Khoo from Penny-Arcade to see how disrespectful the company is.
Sad to say, the CEO should be the one living the standard they're wanting to project.
What kind of CEO BLANTENTLY LIES that she will contact so-and-so and talk to them and NEVER FOLLOWS UP? _TWICE_!
And I'm sure she knew all about the dirty marketing by handing out their fliers outside of PAX.
With so many developers pulling out from their little show, we all know she's not busy.
I say go ahead and let them throw their show in direct conflict to PAX; a competing show so big that its impossible to NOT know about which dates PAX is held. E for All will end up wasting their and their investor's time and money to eventually go bankrupt. Flag this | Edit this post |

| LOL, as if Trion and the HP guys have a clue about the game industry.
YES, PCs will always be on the forefront of graphics and processing power.
BUT, there's a price premium to play the latest and great games as they're meant to be played.
The REAL game industry guys, like ID and EPIC, have already stated they've had to diversify from PC only to PC and consoles due to piracy.
Consoles can easily support keyboard and mice. Its only a matter of developing software and support to have the commong things people use a PC for: E-mail, Web Surfing, Content downloads, etc.
I think the PC gaming scene will die down rather than the other way around. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Before getting up on a soap box of 15 minute fame and speak out against a video game that uses stereotypical caricatures for entertainment, he needs to put more effort in solving the kidnap, rape, torture and murder of over 400 young women in his town; over 70 of them who are still missing.
Even if he solves the above, he should be worried more about the rampant corruption in his government and organized criminals in his town.
Talk about getting his priorities out of order. Link: http://www.amnestyusa.org/women/juarez/ Flag this | Edit this post |

| You're looking at the makings of another Madden 'XX franchise.
In another 18 months, look forward to another Battlefield xxxx game with support for BF2142 dropped with bugs galore.
The actual developers may give a damn, but its EA that writes the paychecks and dictates what the dev team will do.
EA Deathstar FTW! Gamers FTL!
Edit 1: Oh yeah, I played the demo. It blew harder than Katrina. Its all about vehicles with infantry combat an afterthought. So, what's the point of making every single item, down to freaken grenades, an unlock? I suppose in 16 months they'll finally release a patch that supports infantry only servers. THANKS, EA! | I'm running two Dell 2001FP in extended desktop mode.
Both run at 1600x1200 32bpp for my 3DSMax and PS work. I run at that resolution for much of my games too, but turn off all AA, FF and some eye candy for decent frame rates. My 6800GTO card is OCed to a 6800 Ultra speeds, but still has a hard time rendering BF2 with all eye candy at max. Though, upgrading to my new E6400 OCed to 3.4Ghz helped with frame rates. :) Flag this | Edit this post |
